While his poetry tends to be more Israel-centric, his artworks (oil, watercolour, pastel, graphite, and multimedia ) tend to be more military, first-responder or Holocaust based. His paintings have sold internationally and are highly desired by select collectors. An avid writer, his work has been published in over one hundred newspapers and magazines, including Macleans, Huffpost, Ottawa Citizen, Sydney Morning Herald, and Canadian Military Journal.
He is intermittently pursuing further education in Fine Arts at Fanshawe College to assist in developing a more solid, technical foundation as an artist. This will complement an already impressive educational background at Angelo State University (TX), Johannes Gutenberg University (Mainz, Germany), Hebrew University of Jerusalem (Israel) and Oxford University (UK).
Drawing on his long career as a Senior Naval Officer, his life continues to 'Make Full Sail.'

David Lewis is a retired Lieutenant-Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy. He is also an Afghanistan Veteran, author, journalist, published poet, artist, husband, father of five great kids, papa of one incredible little peanut, and fur-baby grandpa of many. When he's not writing or sketching in the cedar-scented shade of Mount Herzl, you might find him stuffing his face in Mahane Yehuda Market in Jerusalem, sipping a pint of Negev Lager at Cafe Puaa in Jaffa, or painting or creating art back home in his studio in Canada.
During the Cold War, David served in the US Army, stationed in various US and European locations. In the early 1990s, he worked diplomatically in humanitarian aid for the former Soviet Union, coordinating a unique relief program with Anatoly Sobchak, Mayor of St. Petersburg. During this time, David also worked alongside diplomats and NGOs in coordinating humanitarian aid for families in many other Eastern European countries. Following this, he spent most of the 2000s in the Royal Canadian Navy on various operations, exercises and foreign deployments, including an Afghanistan tour in 2011-12 as Director of Social Media for NATO. Among his numerous military service awards and decorations are the General Campaign Star — South-West Asia, Meritorious Service Medal, Commander Canadian Army Commendation, and others.
